  A single image, tightly framed: two figures on a balcony, holding each other, looking toward something the viewer can only partly see in the distance. Czimber painted this during the years of the Soviet occupation of Hungary, and it's one of the most personal pieces in the collection — no crowd, no historical wide shot, just two people absorbing news that's about to change their lives. The restraint is what makes it land.
