The portal as a time travel device rather than a spatial one changes the visual grammar considerably. A gateway to another place can be shown as a door or arch; a gateway to another time has to suggest simultaneity — the present and the elsewhere-when existing in the same frame. This piece works with that challenge: the celestial scale of the setting gives the gateway its authority, while the time-travel framing opens up the image beyond simple spatial transit.
