The subject this alien is designing is construction at a scale that has no equivalent on Earth — structures built in space, or at planetary scale, by a civilisation for whom engineering means something different from what it means here. There's a genre of science fiction devoted to this — megastructures, Dyson spheres, orbital rings — and this piece draws from it. The visual interest is in the tension between the industrial logic of engineering (order, function, visible process) and the scale that makes it feel closer to geology than to building.
