 A woodland scene painted for its light rather than its subject — the way sun breaks through the canopy and lands in patches on the ground, the way different parts of the same forest floor can be in bright light and deep shadow at the same moment. Czimber was technically accomplished enough to paint this convincingly, and he seems to have genuinely liked the challenge of it. Among the more purely painterly pieces in the collection.
