Some of his most striking paintings, touching a deep cord in my soul, are the paintings which have undertones of the dark politics he was living under, symbolic of the oppression of his time. One in particular features a couple on a balcony overlooking the haunting tower of a red star facing the balcony, casting a political shadow over the area. It is a very mysterious piece of art, which invites us to reflect on oppression, and how history can very well repeat itself, in any country. During the 1956 Hungarian revolution, he encouraged his young students to fight for their freedom from soviet oppression through art, and to thoroughly express themselves, rather than be silenced and trodden down.
