One of the earliest-dated works in the collection — painted or sourced from a period when Czimber was still a teenager, the imagery shaped by the trains that were reshaping European life in the years around the First World War. He paints the locomotive with the same mix of admiration and unease that shows up in a lot of early-century art about industrial transport: something that moves fast and doesn't stop, carrying people and cargo through a world that's changing faster than most of them can track.
